Finished Wizard of Oz Illustration for Portfolio
Here is the finished illustration based off of the previous sketch for The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I wanted the forest to feel as if it were closing in, a claustrophobic feel. To accomplish this, I added a frame around the forest background. I continued the Tinman outside of this frame for emphasis and visual interest.
Welcome to My New Website/Portfolio
Thanks for vising my new website. This website came about as part of a regional artist project grant I received. The grant is to create a professional children's illustration portfolio. I'm excited for the opportunity to create a new portfolio, and will use this site as a means to update my progress and eventually as a home to the portfolio. It will also feature other work, writings, musing, etc. Just like me, it is a work in progress and will continue to grow.
To begin my portfolio, I have planned out what types of illustrations I want to include. It is important to include a series of illustrations, to show I'm consistent with character, color, etc... between illustrations. I also want to choose familiar subject matter in at least a few of the illustrations. This will give the viewer a familiar story to compare my vision with. I have chosen to illustrate a series based on Frank L. Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Following is my initial sketch from when Dorothy, Scarecrow and Toto find the Tin Man rusted near his cabin.
